Choosing the right cleaning machine

Choosing the right cleaning machine can be a daunting prospect with so many different models and machines within the marketplace, each machine has a different function and to help you choose the correct one we have created a brief overview of the function & design, usage area and general information of each type of floor cleaning machine.

Scrubber/Dryers

Function & Design
A scrubber dryer is a combination machine which can either be pedestrian or ride on.

It puts water and detergent from the clean water tank down into the scrubbing unit, then using the rotating scrubbing brushes or pads, agitates the dirt on the floor. The drying unit on the machine then dries the floor using the squeegee/s and the vacuum, sucking the dirty water into the recovery tank ready for emptying. The floor is left perfectly dry and clean.

Usage Area
A scrubber dryer is normally only for internal use on relatively smooth and level or even floors, such as terrazzo, plastic ceramic, tile, concrete, non-slip surfaces, thermoplastic, linoleum, rubber, painted floor surfaces, marble, sealed wood floors.

General Information
Scrubber dryers come in many different sizes and the size you require will depend on the size of the area you have to clean. We supply machines from walk-behind pedestrian scrubber dryers right up to ride-on sized machines. Our scrubber dryers are powered either by mains electric or battery.

There are a wide variety of accessories available for use on scrubber dryers including; brushes, pad holders, pads, squeegee rubbers, chemical or cleaning detergents and sweeping units (on ride on machines only).

Sweepers

Function & Design
Our vacuumated sweepers have a cylindrical brush which rotates at speed throwing the dirt and debris into a waste hopper bin. An efficient filtration system means that all the dust is contained within the machine. Having one or two side brushes on the sweepers, enables close to edge cleaning, e.g. along curbs, steps, racking, shelving and walls. Using a sweeping machine means no dust is thrown up into the air and therefore makes it far more efficient than traditional manual methods of sweeping using a broom.

General Information
Sweepers come in varying widths and waste hopper bin capacities. The sweeper you require will depend on the size and the accessibility of the area you have to clean. We supply machines from walk-behind pedestrian sweepers right up to ride-on models. Our sweepers are powered by battery electric, LPG gas, petrol, diesel or dual power.

Polishers, Buffing & Scrubbing

Function & Design
A full range of machines appropriate for scrubbing, stripping, polishing and spray cleaning of hard floors. The low rotating speed together with high brush pressure is the ideal solution for the cleaning and stripping of floors. The higher speed machines are designed to polish a wide range of floor types. Waxing and polishing of your floor not only improves the appearance but also provides protection from moisture and damage from dirt. Dual speed single disc machines combine two functions in one by allowing you to scrub and polish with the same machine, thereby giving you two machines in one, reducing costs and storage space required.

Usage Area
Floor types on which a scrubbing, buffing or polishing machine may be used include; Terrazzo, wood, linoleum, vinyl, tiles, marble, stone, quarry tiles, ceramic, amtico.

All polishers are mains operated. Full range of accessories are available including pads, brushes, water tanks, vacuum units and chemical.

Scarifier Machines

Function & Design
A scarifier is designed for environments where there is ground in dirt on the floor that needs heavy agitation to make an impact. Scarifiers have three rotating discs, onto which a variety of consumables can be fitted; scarifying bruses, starwheels, carbide blocks and scraper tools.

Usage Area
Most hard floor surfaces. Industrial environments, manufacturing, shipyards, garages, where build of oil, grease or paint is a problem and manual removal methods are no good. Using a scarifier can save valuable labour hours. Especially good for breaking down of ice in cold stores, impacted tyre rubber, tile or carpet adhesives, rust or paint from steel flooring.

Vacuum Cleaners

Function & Design
Heaviest duty vacuums available for the most demanding of industrial cleaning tasks. An industrial vacuum is a highly manoevrable and robust machine, which gives superior cleaning performance. Industrial vacuums can pick up wet or dry materials making them highly versatile. We have industrial vacuum cleaners available for both internal and external use.

Usage Area
Industrial vacuums are particularly suitable for the following industries; textiles, engineering, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, car manufacturing sites, metal working, production lines, pharmaceutical and glass manufacturing as well as for use in power plants. Good for removal of swarf. The enviro backvac is particularly suited to external applications, the collection of litter, leaves, and contaminated materials such as dog faeces.

General Information
Most machines are mains electric - although compressed air models, battery powered or three phase machines designed for continuous usage are available on request. The enviro backvac is petrol driven.

Pressure Washers

Function & Design
A pressure washer in its most basic form consists of a pump and a motor. The motor drives the pump thereby applying pressure on the water. This pressure on the water will cause very high water speed and which is utilised during the cleaning. The effect of this is very similar to pinching the garden hose only far more efficient. The pump provides a constant volume of water while the pressure depends on the size of the nozzle attached to the end of the lance.

Cold water pressure washers are pressure cleaners with the water temperature almost identical to the water inlet temperature. In case of water cooled engines slight heating of the high pressure water will however take place.

Usage Area
Cold water pressure washers are used in; agriculture, within the automobile indutsry (industry),transportation, warehousing, haulage, in the building and construction sector and in a great number of other fields where soils can be removed by cold water. Fats and oils are often treated but not dominating to such a degree as to call for hot water.

Other applications may be; conservatories, patios, pathways, paving, vehicles, PVCU windows, building fascias, roofs, guttering, car parks, children’s play areas, educational institutions, construction industries, manufacturing and food industries.

General Information
All pressure washers are mains operated or engine driven.

Carpet Cleaners

Function & Design
Carpet cleaners work by spraying a solution of water and chemical deep into the pile of the carpet under pressure, which is immediately extracted, leaving the carpet clean and fresh with only minimal water residue.  The dirty water is deposited into a dirty water tank which must be emptied after use.  There are two types of injection-extraction machines; self contained machines and machines solely for use with a separate wand.

Any carpeted area, such as; schools, classrooms, waiting rooms, department stores, retail outlets, offices, hotels, showrooms, conference centres, exhibition halls, cinemas, theatres, hospitals, doctors surgeries, dentist surgeries, airports, departure lounges, nursing homes, care homes, day centres, guest houses, bed and breakfasts, public houses, nightclubs, restaurants, service stations,  nurseries, youth clubs, colleges, universities, private households, leisure centres, holiday cottages, holiday parks, etc.

Steam Cleaners

Function & Design
Traditional cleaning methods mean that only the top surface of an area is cleaned. Although the area looks clean, germs and bacteria survive beneath the surface and continue to breed.

Steam cleaners have been designed to provide deep down cleaning, meaning that the area is thoroughly cleaned throughout and not just on the visible surface. Areas are left hygienic, free from germs and bacteria with minimal effort, new germs cannot find a proper ground to grow. Using a steam cleaner also means that the use of chemicals are reduced by 80-90% and the use of water is reduced by 90-95%.

Steamers work by transferring water from the cold water tank, through the boiler which heats it and turns it into steam at the nozzle. There are a range of accessories that can be attached to the lance in order to meet any cleaning requirement.

Usage Area
Removes limescale and stains from sinks, wash basins, baths and toilets, cleans and sanitises fridges, removes stubborn stains from carpets and soft furnishings. Cleans and degreases oven doors and racks. Cleans windows, mirrors, kitchen tiles, showers, bathrooms, cooker hobs, cooker hoods, fryers, griddles, freezers, microwaves, tiled or vinyl floors, car wheels or engines. Steam has been used to clean railways, ships and power stations for around 150 years.
